*** KanaFlash Project Development *** (C)1999-2005 Shawn Gray, Circle Eight (http://www.circle-eight.com) [ Development History ] August, 2005 - Developed a PHP/MySQL version of the original Perl script, which used a flat text data file - Implemented a scoring system which keeps track of correct and incorrect guesses February, 2005 - (Re?)created 3 image files which seem to have gotten lost somehow... weird. Thanks to Nate D. for noticing and reporting this. March, 2001 - Added a META tag to enforce SHIFT-JIS encoding on the study.html file. This causes browsers to load the Japanese character set without the viewer having to manually change the browser language settings. Thanks to asmodai on IRC Undernet #FreeBSD for this suggestion. - Added textbox for users to enter their guesses via keyboard instead of trying to find their way around the 'virtual keyboard' with the mouse. Thanks to Sachiko Ito for suggesting this function. - Fixed a bug where the Hiragana 'ji' and 'mi' were getting confused. - Added this file. - Redid the Kana Study Page - Added a page for instructions on changing browser language settings January, 2000 - Added Katakana functionality, long overdue. (I have a suspicion of a bug or two in here... if you see anything, please let me know.) July, 1999 - Main initial project development and kickoff [ Development Plans ] - Addition of kanji Possibly the basic 2,000 Toyo kanji, although it sure will take a while to make all of those flash cards.. :-) Any volunteers to create the graphics? - Development of a stand-alone (offline) version This has been requested by a number of people, so I have finally decided that I will go ahead and do it. Development will probably be done in Delphi or Perl for Win32/GUI, and should start fairly soon, although there are no guarantees as to when it will get done, as spare time is a rare commodity. Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. I'm glad to know you find KanaFlash useful.
